Question:

Which plants complement periwinkle?

I have deep-purple periwinkle planted in the flower bed in front of my house. I want to plant other plants but I'm not sure what I should look for? Spikey? Bushy? Different colors? If so, which colors? If you know of a website that helps with landscape design ideas, that would be great, too. I've already tried Lowe's and HGTV but they weren't very helpful. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that I live in central Florida. Thanks! :)

  1. when u say periwinkle do u mean Vinca Major or Vinca Minor.  I dont mean to get to technical, but one can be used as a groundcover and the other is also known as a flowering perennial.  I have both.  The groundcover is great in both shade and full sun.  It's amazing....you cant kill it.  Has a nice flower in spring and again in Fall.  I have it as ground cover in my day lilly bed.  It is very thick and acts as a living " mulch " to help cool the soil and keep in some moisture.

I also have the flowering perennial that is pretty cool. I have it in white bordering all my flower beds, with white Begonias in front of it.

    good luck

  2. There are so many plants that would work.  I have quite a few plants with my periwinkle.  I have 8 gardenias with lavender, delphiniums, and mondara planted between the gardenias.  The periwinkle are planted along the front of those, and are mixed in with blue lobelia.

Hope this gives you some ideas!
