  1. Fiat seicento or cinquecento. Small, cheap to run and insure and as they're a FIAT and people think they still rot for Italy and break down all the time (NO and NO for that) prices to buy are pretty reasonable too.

  2. Honda Civic or Honda Fit.

They'll have a lower cost of ownership than most other cars.

    2008 Honda Civic Sedan

    MSRP:

    $15,010 - $22,460

    Invoice:

    $13,827 - $20,660

    2008 Honda Fit

    MSRP:

    $13,950 - $16,070

    Invoice:

    $13,453 - $15,488

  3. Toyota aygo tax £35 insurance £200 average

  4. Definitely don't go for something like a Ford Ka or on the other hand a BMW 1-series, but go for a Fiat Panda - they're cheap and reliable

  5. Toyota Echo 00

    $3 to $4,000

The ECHO is Toyota’s entry-level car that is one of the highest fuel-mileage passenger cars sold in the U.S. market. The ECHO was introduced for the 2000 model year and features a higher roof and higher seating positions than what was traditionally found in the entry-level segment.

    owner reviews:

The ECHO is very reliable, gets incredible gas mpg.Great car for zipping around cities. Easy to park. Very roomy inside, much bigger that it looks. Typical Toyota quality, 109,000, and 7 years old and it still drives just like it did when I drove it off the lot

    "great value"

    2000 Toyota ECHO 2-Door

    Pros:

    fuel economy

    Cons:

    narrow interior

    Overall Review:

great fun to drive and very economical

    By: Jason from WNY

    Pros:

Great on gas (35-40 mpg) ! Accelerates better than our SUV. Center mounted guages are great! I never have to lift my hands or peek under yhe steering wheel to check my guages. The folding rear seats allow larger loads to be hauled withiut problems. Carries kayaks/canoes on top with ease. Comfortable seats, nice higher ride, plenty of leg/head room. No blind spots make this a safe vehicle.

    Cons:

High wind noise with windows down. Poor heating/ AC power. MAF sensors go bad and constantly cause check engine light to go on, resulting in an expensive repair ( suggest Toyota getting rid of the sensor, not needed) . Have to constatnly wait for cool engine light to change to warm before driving, otherwise the car wants to choke back and stutter when you initially accelerate. Cold WNY temps in winter cause relays to build up moisture, resulting in electrical problems and relay replacement. Repair manuals not available through Chiltons or Haynes, only through dealer at $200+( ebay has CD manual that does the job well and saves at only $20).

    Overall Review:

For the most part, you can't go wrong with this vehicle. For the money, you get every penny worth, and save $$$ on gas like you wouldn't believe. Strongly suggest vehicle to someone with limited cash looking for a quality backed economical vehicle. As for the dislikes, most of these issues have been corrected or limited in the following year models. It's a great value for the $$$ !

  6. Citroen C1, very very similar to the Toyota Aygo but a bit cheaper
