1. Protein molecules contain no phosphorus.

2. Hershey and Chase discovered that 35S and not 32P had been incorporated into the hereditary system of the bacteria.

3. Bacteriophages are viruses that inject their nucleic acid genetic code into bacteria and use the bacterial genetic apparatus to make viral proteins.

4. Each nucleotide is composed of a five-carbon sugar, a phosphate group, and either a purine or a pyrimidine.

  1. Number 2 is definitely false.  It is the nucleic acid that is injected into the bacteria, not protein.  Since Phosphorous is not incorporated in any amino acids (serine is) and only 32P (not 35S) was found inside the bacteria, only nucleic acid entered the bacteria.

  2. This is False:

    2. Hershey and Chase discovered that 35S and not 32P had been incorporated into the hereditary system of the bacteria.

    This is True:

    2. Hershey and Chase discovered that 32P and not 35S had been incorporated into the hereditary system of the bacteria.

  3. 2 is false:  32P labeled DNA was detected inside the infected cells, showing that a nucleic acid was the genetic material.

1 is arguable false: Amino acids do not contain phosphorous, but phosphorylation is a common post-translation modification of proteins.
