Im debating on whether to get the new Samsung plasma (PN50A650) or new Samsung LCD (LN40A650) they are both part of the 650 touch of color series....both are top of the line in their own class.

The LCD:

The Plasma: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_05775038000P?vName=Computers%20&%20Electronics&cName=Televisions&sName=Plasma%20TVs&psid=YAHOOSSP01&sid=ISx20070515x00001c

Which one would be a better investment and why?

(burn-in is not that big of an issue anymore) I want good picture quality/detail and smooth accurate motion. Will be using it a lot for Gaming, movies, and sports (mostly baseball)

Iv'e seen the LCD on display already but not the plasma...the LCD looks amazing

So what should I do?

Please elaborate...

ps.... here are the official sites:

the tvs are under "flat panels"

  1. There is one universal truth I have found in the world after 39 years, and I will impart that knowledge to you this very day...when it comes to TV's you cannot go wrong with Mitsubishi.  I have owned several over the years and have never had any problems with them.  I used to work in a TV repair shop and Samsung would come in quite often for repairs.  If you are convinced you need to get a Samsung, I would go with option one, but I would check into Mitsubishi first.  Good luck.

  2. I've seen both of these sets in action....and they both look amazing. A few conditions will affect which one you should really go with;

    In a Plasma,You'll get darker better looking blacks. You'll also get less motion blur than an LCD will. It's got it's few drawbacks though...the sets get VERY HOT, they're VERY HEAVY, so if you're mounting it, you'll find it more difficult to mount than an LCD. If your room has a lot of natural lighting (windows, skylights) it will KILL the picture on a plasma. Since the panel has a piece of glass on top of the screen, it will get lots of glares, and reflect lighting on it. And although the burn in issue in plasmas has come a long way in being improved, there STILL is a chance of burn in. Also, if you're looking for a FULL HD 1080p model, there is a very limited selection of plasmas that will produce a 1080p resolution.

    LCD are much BRIGHTER, with BRILLIANT COLORS. They are much more energy efficient, will use a lot less power than a plasma. HUGE selection of FULL HD 1080p resolution sets. LCD tvs are usually a "gamer's" first choice over a plasma. The brighter colors and no chance of burn in are vital for playing games.They are much lighter, easier to mount than a plasma. Much better than a plasma for a brightly lit room with lots of sunlight, minimal glares. This type of tv also has a few draw-backs...LCDs sometimes have problems with displaying blacks properly (although newer sets have come a long way!) sometimes displaying them as shades of green almost. Motion blur is more visible than on a plasma with fast moving actions, especially when watching in 1080i.

    Hope this helps, if you have any further questions, feel free to e-mail!

    ***SIDENOTE** Mitsubishi doesn't make LCD or Plasma televisions...they only make projection and DLP TVs. NOT what the asker is interested in.
