We have an energy star heating oil boiler with a tankless hot water heater and an 8 year old propane kitchen range.

So, which wastes less energy:

1. running water down the drain until it's hot and then boiling it?

2. filling the pot with cold water and boiling it?

I really try to be efficient and conscience, but I can't figure this one out!

  1. Hot water from a tap is not to be drinked.........not good for you....no matter what the energy result...........

  2. Id say #2

  3. #2... you are using energy and water in #1.........

  4. I'd say #1 since you have a natural gas stove, that just raises the demand for fossil fuels.

  5. Well it depends, technically, you could run it until it is hot but fill up the sink and use that water for doing dishes and stuff, that way you arent wasting it as much.

  6. #2.

There's already a worldwide shortage of water, so it's better not to waste it and use electricity than make there be less water for other people.

In many places, electricity is much cleaner than it was, and electric plants are some of the easiest energy sources to make less polluting. (ex nuclear energy). Cars, on the other hand, is a different story.

Good Luck with being Green! :-)
