My freezer unit is blowing warm air and my refrigeration unit is not working at all. This happened following a power surge during bad weather. The refrigerator is about 8 years old. Can anyone tell me if this is a compressor problem or something minor.

  1. to get it fix it not going to be worth it. If you do get it fixed, you might as well get a new one cause a repair man costs a lot even with a warranty. Um, you can get them at like Best Buy for 400.00 and up. Plus your refrigerator is 8 yrs old. Id get a new one every 5-7 years cause they do wear out. Yours is probally really worn out. Good Luck. Hopes this helps!!

  2. Sounds like your icebox lost its refigerant. it is not too expensive to have it charged but where is it leaking? that is what could cost you. I would call a repairman and get an estimate and consider the cost of repair, used and new.

  3. On the least side...the defrost timer may be stuck ... try unplugging it for 15 minutes and plugging it back in....lotsa luk !!

  4. I would say its going to be very expensive to fix.

That sounds like the condensor and refrigerant portion of the motor got hit hard.

You may want to get a new fridge, it might be cheaper than the fix.

  5. If your frig is not under any kind of extended warranty, think about what company you would purchase one from. Then call them about sending out a repairman.

Through personal experience, I did this and the repairman said that the frig was 'shot' (not literally!) and if I purchased a new one from that company, the cost of his visit would be deducted from the purchase.

Look into and call and ask. LOL
