  1. The most practiced around the world would be  1. taekwondo because it is in olympic sport. Also, classes are opening and spreading everywhere. You only need a black belt to teach, you can open a class in 2 or 3 years. 2. Karate. Not in olympic but still easy to spread and teach, popular in most countries.. 3. Kung fu. Popular in by movies and particular by bruce lee. Also, most of asia practice some kung fu related style. Huge population in china. Unlike karate and taekwondo,  a kung fu master, red belt can take up to 10 years to achieve, before he can open his own school.

As for which style is the best? I would say, the best way is to look for the best masters. best masters are more important than styles. Example, if you learn from the best Taekwondo master/champion, even you are are not the best, but you have the potential to be top ten in taekwondo, and that is enough to kick most asses regardless of what style they do. When you are being trained by the best, you can become an awsome fighter. You can still beat most fighters of any more superior styles.

Just say if you are learning The Best Style X, but your instructor is c**p, you will not be able to beat even tje average fighters of other styles. Sometimes, you can try your best, or do your best, but, doing your best to learn the wrong techniques is not going to help you in a fight.

Therefore, it should  be in this order of importance:

    1. Yourself. Do you have the discipline? Can you put a side a few hours per day to train? Do you have the talent or some of the Natural abilites?

    2. Master. Find a master who used to be a champion or who has been able to produce champions in the past. Who is also willing to teach you.

    3. Find a martial that suit your body shape or your abilities. Example, if you are big and have short legs, then, Taekwondo would be a waste of time for you.

My picks for the styles are:

    In Kung fu:

Iinternal arts -  Taichi,   Baqua zhang, Xin Yi , very dangerous in high level, especially when combine with pressure points.

External -  Southern praying mantis (iron jacket and sticky hands and very aggressive), Wingchun (stick hands, and quick to finish learning the whole system), Choilayfut (comprehensive system with iron jacket or shirt) , northern praying mantis (fast and aggressive)

    other styles:

Muai Thai (powerful, simple system, iron shin and elbow, good body conditioning )

boxing (easy to learn, fast hand combos, but need to learn defence against kicks and dirty boxing or take down by opponent. )

Taekwondo ( fast mobility , lots of different kicks, but need to learn how to use hands strikes. Not bad to combine with boxing)

BJJ and MMA (varieties, give you the option to change tactics depending on your opponent's style.

    Krav Maga and more.........

  2. If you are talking about sheer quantity learning a particular style, I believe that TKD has that title, then possibly Karate and Kung Fu, and maybe Judo (its growing)  These three are by far the most practiced around the world.   This conglomerates the different styles within Kung Fu and Karate, which have quite a few within fairly broad names.

As for the best Martial Arts in the world, they can all be great or horrible, depending on the practitioner.  IE, there is no "best" Martial Arts, there are only great Martial Artists.

    A few of the better known and well respected Kung Fu Styles;

    Seven Star Mantis

    Wing Chun

    5 Animals

    Eagle Claw

    White Crane

    Hung Ga

There are alot of great styles of Kung Fu, each with its strengths.  As for Karate, I don't practice it, so I couldn't  comment on it, except to say that the Okinawan styles seem to be pretty high on the list.

  3. surprisingly ed parkers kenpo is amazingly popular.. and bushido kickboxing.. but the guy above me is right.. boxing is the most famous if not the most popular.. judo is pretty big as is tae kwon do.... they are both olympic sports... and you cant forget plain old okinawan karate..

  4. Since boxing is not a martial art or "military art" it would have to be Tae Kwon Do.

  5. BOXING

  6. My guess would be Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Judo, Gong Fu and kick boxing due to their rise in popularity via the media.

But being the top may be left to some debate.

  7. Personally, I'm partial to traditional Okinawan karate, but when it comes down to it, it's not the style that makes it great - it's the student.
