  1. me!!!

  2. Charlene Gonzales

  3. The number may actually be an estimation. I doubt that the Philippines has 7,107(7,100 if high tide) islands.I know that there are microislands but IMO, surveyors count the islands that are large enough to support a habitat.

  4. miss angelita esteban,my grade two teacher.

  5. They had a roll call and all the islands held their hands up to be counted.

  6. Geologists or cartographers or the government body in charge of surveying land.

There must be an official count made, because 7,107 happens to be an exact number. It could not have been whimsical, there is a scientific definition for "islands", and it is not possible that somebody just "declared" that we have 7,107 islands.

  7. It's a myth.  No one, not even a committee and their direct descendants working for years, could have done the arduous task of counting islands with the resources and technology available in the past - even if such number were constant, which it is not, due to ever-changing topology.  And then the daily occurrence of high and low tides would skew that number.

But for academic purposes, we must have a number.  Seven seems to be a lucky number, or maybe romantic, so 7,000 was an easy choice.  However it was also an obvious estimate, thus the extra digits were added to give a semblance of accuracy.

Then the figure was used by the authorities, and was generally accepted as precise because no one had the means to challenge it.

  8. Geologists counted them.  Actually, when one island disappears or sinks another one or two surfaced.

  9. That guy, Great Days, is really smart.  I think I agree with his answer.

  10. I do not know who initially counted the Philippine islands.

However, you can verify the count from NAMRIA.

The National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA) surveys and maps the nation's land and water environment, primarily in support of the various programs of its mother unit, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the national government. Among its major mandates is to provide both the public and private sectors with map-making services as well as geographic and resource information

NAMRIA has always been at the forefront of utilizing advance technologies to provide accurate and up-to-date geographic and resource information through its surveying, mapping, charting, land classification, remote sensing and information management and dissemination services
