Who flies often and likes it?

Question

OK I am going to mexico city sometime in the next year, And i am going to drive because i am so scared to fly, just thinking about it I picture a plane crashing. the thing is it will take at least 4 days to get there and I have to small children. Why am I so scared? I guess the real fright came after 911. but what do you people who love to fly do on the plane? I mean this flight will take like 5 hr. if i choose to fly

I LOVE FLYING!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S MY FAVORITE THING TO DO!!!!!!!!!! I DREAM TO BE A PILOT. I'M GOING TO NYC ON SUNDAY, AND I AM SO EXCITED, THAT I CAN BARELY CONTATIN MYSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'VE FLOWN FROM SAN FRAN TO SYDNEY (13HRS.) AND I HAD A BLAST!!!!!!!!!

statistically, it is safer to fly.  you are more likely to die in a crushing, violent, fire-ball of a vehicle accident.  if you get in a car accident, most likely it will be a slow death but if you are in a plane accident, it will be quick.

I fly often because it is the most convenient route. When I go abroad to Europe or Asian I obviously have to fly because I can't drive over water. Once you do it many times flying is just like another bus ride, accept it is in the air. In order to get over the fear of flying you have to have more trust in the airlines and the TSA. Also...why not give it a shot? It will save you tons of time and if you truly don't like it, then car might be your only option.

yeah i can see why you're scared but i personly love flying well it is kind of boring but lift off and landing are so much fun and you can catch up on your reading during the trip or just look out the window, sometimes you just have to face your fears! plus with the gas prices it would probably be cheaper to fly

I feel far safer in a plane than in a car.

There are literally thousands of plane flights every day. When did one crash last? Small odds I would say.

First of all, noone who flies often really likes it, not these days.

What they like are the results:  you arrive at your destination quickly and safely.

You will be MUCH safer in the air than driving for several days across Mexico.

If you have not flown before, it is somewhat natural to have the fears you describe.  The main reason people have less fear of the more dangerous activity (driving) is because they are in control (they think), rather at the mercy of some unknown pilot.  But the fact is, that pilot goes through a lot of training, which is more than you can say for all those jerks out on the roads!

The best way to overcome your fears is to confront them.

If need be, there are "overcoming fear of flying" training classes - yes, really.  You start by just sitting in a plane on the ground, and at the end, you go on a very short flight and return to the same airport.  If you are REALLY scared, you could try one of those.

But really you should just say, "X thousand people do this EVERY DAY all over the world, and 99.999999% of them arrive safely.  I think it will work out OK."

I, for one, would have a greater fear of being alone in a car for 4 days with 2 kids!

I disagree with MathMan - I fly a lot, and I still love it.

The only thing about flying that truly makes me uncomfortable is turbulence (and it has to be pretty bad to shake me up). If my flight goes through some "rough air", I turn on my iPod to my favorite music and try my best to relax by taking deep breaths. Smacking my gum (with my mouth closed) also helps me relieve stress. Those stress-relieving squeeze things also help.

I like to see the Earth from a different point of view, and the fact that one can travel thousands of miles in a few hours is fascinating to me. And I don't have to drive to where I'm going - I do enough of that during the week.

Just remember that you're FAR more likely to have car trouble or get into an accident by driving to Mexico City than if you were to fly there. And 4 days with small children in the car can be absolutely exhausting.

I have been flying since I was 2. I flown to figi, Africa, Australia...everywhere really.

5 hours is nothing compared to 23 hours or longer. On a short flight, I bring headphones to keep anyone snoaring out. Gum is always good. Trust me, it is waaaaay better to travel on a plane that drive with two kids. They get real cranky. Your plane is not going to crash TRUST me. Things have gotten alot safer after 9/11. You should try it....if you don't like it, just don't do it again. Hope i helped

i fly all the time its awesome ive flow all over the world. Your scared fo flying but you do know its more likely you will die in a car crash then a plane crash. your probability of getting in a accident is much greater in a car. iM not tryin to scare you but planes are safe.  but i like driving ive driven across country you can see a lot of cool stuff on your way have a good time in mexico city
