A friend of mine has to attend on Monday and she's terrified. She's only 21. Can someone who's been, tell me what it will be like, so I can ease her mind please? Thanks!

  1. I was 18 when I pulled jury duty but that was 32 years ago.  It was nothing and I got paid for being there plus I got mileage for having to drive so far to get there.  It mostly consisted of calling in every day to see if your group was selected to go in.  All together, I actually went in about 5 or 6 times during the month and I was in only 2 juries.  It was no big deal and kind of fun except for the boring part of listening to a couple lawyers plead their case, (some lawyers are really boring).  It's not a bad experience at all and great for learning the legal process.

  2. Jury duty is different, depending on if it's in a local court, county, supreme, or federal. When I served it was only a couple of hours but my grandfather had to serve for 2 months.

  3. I have many times.

Basically she'll report, they may show a small video or presentation about what a juror does.  You'll end up in a court room where they'll call some folk up and ask questions.....they are basically looking for they type of person they want on the jury.......some people don't even ever get asked any questions.  I never have.  I work in a law firm, no one wants me.

Anyway, unless she is picked it will probably take 2-4 hours.  If she is picked she will serve for as long as the case goes, could be a couple of days (unless its a big case)

It is painless and easy and part of your civic duty.  Actually an honor as you are participating in something that this country was founded on.
