  1. Patrick is right, Leonardo was the first to put it on paper and some people have been able to build a glider based on his design with marginal success. The Wright brothers are generally credited for actually accomplishing manned flight.

  2. If im not mistaken it was the wright brothers (Orville and Wilbur) who invented the first and successful airplane.. But if you are curious with my answer try to search in the web.

  3. The Wright Brothers in 1904

  4. "Airplane" refers merely to the fact that an aircraft is flying on a plane (as in geometry) through the air. The person who first invented the airplane is a huge debate; Leonardo da Vinci had designed aircraft, and Otto Lilienthal had made the first glider flights. The Wright brothers merely made the first powered flight of an aircraft, but that does not mean they invented the airplane. The Mongolfier brothers in 1872 were the first to successfully fly a ballon, and it wasn't until 1903 that the Wright brothers performed their famed flight. To answer your question, though, yes, America believes it was the Wright brothers, however, in Brazil, despite Dumont not performing his first successful flight in a practical dirigible balloon until 1906, he is considered in Brazil to be the "Father of Aviation."

As far as I'm concerned, there is no one "Father," for all these men - da Vinci, Lilienthal, the Montgolfiers, the Wrights, and even Dumont all significantly contributed to aviation, resulting in what we now have today.

  5. The wright brothers built the first plane and flew the very first plane.

  6. Santos-Dumont designed, built, and flew the first practical dirigible balloons. In doing so he became the first person to demonstrate that routine, controlled flight was possible. This “conquest of the air”, in particular winning the Deutsch de la Meurthe prize on 19 October 1901 on a flight that rounded the Eiffel Tower, made him one of the most famous persons in the world during the early 1900s.

In addition to his pioneering work in airships, Santos-Dumont made the first public flight of an airplane in Paris in October 1906. That aircraft, designated 14-bis or Oiseau de proie (French for “bird of prey”), is considered to be the first to take off, fly, and land without the use of catapults, high winds, launch rails, or other external assistance.

He is the inventor of the airplane and in his homeland Brazil he is honored as the “Father of Aviation”.

  7. The N-Da Company, Aeronautics Division. I'm the CEO. Your mum is the janitor.

  8. The first successful sustained flight is attributed to the Wright brothers.  I live in Dayton, Ohio the home of the Wright brothers.  There were many other people around the same time trying to achieve sustained flight.  The French have some legitimate claims to possibly being the first.  ( if you look at the film of the Wright brothers flying....they use a weight system to give the plane a boost to lift off ).  The French claim to have done it without such an aid and to be first.  I have heard of others ( inclucing a gentleman in Brazil )...throughout time there seems to be instances of...those who get credit in history....and those who really did it.  That has happened in many fields of endeavor.

  9. wright brothers

  10. Wright brothers.

  11. A glider wasn't the answer to the problem.  The Wrights, and the world at that time, was after a controllable, powered craft that would lift a man and payload and carry them against the wind a given distance.

Lots of people, in France, the US, and elsewhere designed something that would skitter off the ground (in today what would be called ground effect) in a quasi straight line.

The Wrights were the first to achieve sustained controllable flight, capable of turning left or right and climbing or descending at the pilot's control.

The first flights at Kitty Hawk used no capapult system, that came later with a bigger machine (the '05 Flyer at Huffman Prairie).  They set record after record and were the first to flyl a complete circle and a Figure 8.

  12. orville wright

  13. Heres my bad spelling

LeAnardo Divinici (close as I can come)

He invented the airplane in theory.  His drawing were almost good enough to make it work if he actually built one.  It is thought that leonardo made his drawings a little off from what he was really thinking so if anyone stole his notes his inventions would not work.  SO he almost or did invent the airplane he just never built one that worked.
