  1. I think it was the Greeks, or Phoenicians.....something like that.

  2. the tower of london by the way still has the privvies in the walls hanging out over the (then) moat - basically holes in walls.

they should turn them into public loos - what an experience that would be

  3. Just so you know it was not Thomas Crapper. There is no single person credited with the invention since it has evolved in many forms over the years. The first privately used one was in England in th 16th century and from there were many changes so no one person can be awarded that distinction. Perhaps that is why the legendary Thomas Crapper was crowned with the honor.

  4. Baron Von Toilet.

  5. Well, they'd hardly invent the second toilet? Sorry that just struck me there. In 1596, a flush toilet was invented and built for Queen Elizabeth I by her Godson, Sir John Harrington.

  6. A Man named Crapper (Toilet Bowl)...!!

  7. The first valve-type flush toilet was introduced in 1738 by a man named J.F. Brondel. Of course, the "water closet" had been invented 150 years earlier by John Harrington, but what the heck is a "water closet" anyway??????!!!!!!!!!
