    In February 2006, HM King Abdullah Bin Al Hussein II of Jordan bestowed the Bejeweled Grand Cordon of Al Nahda (Order of the Renaissance) on Princess Haya in recognition of her notable humanitarian efforts both in Jordan and internationally. The Al Nahda is the highest decoration in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

    Princess Haya was the first Arab and first woman to serve as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations World Food Program from 2005-2007. Her appointment was supported by then UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, making her the second Goodwill Ambassador ever for the WFP. Princess Haya is also Chairperson of the International Humanitarian City – IHC.

    As a long-time athlete in equestrian sports, Princess Haya is the first Arab woman to compete in equestrian at Olympic, world and continental championship level. In 2007, the International Olympic Committee elected Princes Haya as a member of the IOC. Her Royal Highness was elected on May 1st 2006 as President of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) and therefore became the first Arab to occupy this international position.

    Family

    Princess Haya's father was Hussein bin Talal (November 14, 1935 – February 7, 1999), the King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan from 1952 to 1999.

    Her mother was Alia Baha ed din Toukan (1948–1977), the third of the king's four wives. Queen Alia died in a helicopter crash in Amman, Jordan, and Jordan's main airport was named Queen Alia International Airport in her honour.

    Princess Haya is the first of two children King Hussein had by Queen Alia; she has a younger brother, Ali (born 1975), and an older adopted sister, Abir, (born 1972, adopted 1976). She also has several half-brothers and half-sisters, among them the reigning king Abdullah II of Jordan.

    Princess Haya studied in Britain, where she attended Badminton School for Girls in Bristol, Bryanston School in Dorset and later St Hilda's College, Oxford University, from which she graduated with a BA Honours degree in P.P.E.
