  1. Lyrcia is usually NOT the first course of treatmant for RLS unless you suffer with bothersome symptoms everyday & therefore require daily therapy as opposed to taking a pill when you first feel the symptoms coming on. Lyrcia (pregabalin) is actually an anticonvulsant/pain blocker drug. It is most commonly used to treat diabetic neuropathy, shingles, & fibromyalgia. However, some doctors will prescribe for RLS patients who complain of PAIN in addition to the "normal" symptoms of RLS.

There can be pretty uncomfortable side effects with this drug & the therapy must be followed precisely in order to avoid having the therapeutic levels in your blood drop too low.

The most common first line of treatment (besides diet in the iron deficient RLS patient) for RLS is Requip. It can be taken at the onset of symptoms or as a daily dose in the patient that has moderate to severe symptoms.

Don't be afraid to ask your doctor questions before you start taking any medication.  GOOD LUCK!

  2. Isn't lyrica for fibromyalgia?
