Question:

Whose serve do you copy?

I'm wondering, for the tennis players out there who sometimes pick up pointers from watching pro tennis players, which Pro's serve do you simulate most often?

I've been experimenting with Andy Roddick's, and then Federer's.. and both have been working out for me, but maybe there are some other players who have smoother follow throughs etc. that you guys like to copy?

Sorry for the chippy sounding question, I don't have much time to type out intricate questions, lol.

  1. Personally I don't think Tangent knows what he's talking about.  I use a Roddickesque motion and it has made my serve bigger and more consistent.  The abbreviated motion has become a hot thing in the tennis world.  Roddick's motion is pretty exagerated, but the abbreviated motion is good, as long as you feel comfortable with it.

I first copied a Sampras like motion when I was younger.  So now I have a blend of that motion and the abbreviated Roddick motion.

  2. Copying Andy Roddick is probably one of the worst things you can do for your serve and your arm/shoulder.  Andy has a good serve and it works for him, but technically it is flawed beyond belief (for a pro of his caliber).  If you had to copy anyone I would copy Federer since his serve is very strong and motion near effortless.  Sampras had a very good serve too as well as motion, may want to try his out as well, or just do whatever feels best to you.

  3. i copy davenport everything.  because i know that my footwork and runing ability isnt as good so i copy her.  and i play very well since my groundstrokes are what i do best.

serena has the most basic serve with little motion.  so copying her serve is easy and it doesnt harm the body at all.  and its easy to do.
