I live in London but I often travel to Manchester, Aberdeen and Birmingham.  I notice a difference in the way the women dress.  In London it's definitely a nice top and jeans and not too much of an effort.  It seems that the further north you go, the less clothes the women wear on a night out which might give the impression of being cheaper I suppose.
