Why are farts so funny?

Seriously, is there an evolutionary/scientific reason? If it's just a funny noise, why hasn't my 86 year old grandad got bored of it by now?

I didn't realise they were. I though only children though they are funny.

They're funny because their sound is made by air from your butt vibrating your butt hole/cheeks.

Laughter is a nervous reaction as well, so it may be that people laugh at farts to diffuse the embarrassment.

Also, they're just plain funny.

On the personal preference level I find belching quite disgusting. Farts, however, are of an entirely different nature. It takes no imagination or talent to blech like a bull elephant, but farting, well, that never trully seems to go out of style.

Some may laugh due to embarassment, but not always so.

For a select few, it isn't only the funny noise that appears to matter, but the differences in the noises that can be heard from one, er, instrument.

When the connoisseur of farts comes to realise that though various adjustments the tunes can be made quite interesting, contrasted with the sheer horror on the face of some in the audience, the overall melodic and entertainment features of an otherwise dull, boring function of the body becomes endlessly enchanting.

Further, short of soiling ones own nickers it is a talent that may be developed well past the age of ninety, perhaps up until the shaking of this mortal coil.

There isn't really an explanation to most frivolous human behavior. A lot of things are survival instincts, but you're not any more likely to survive if you think farts are funny. So any human trait that doesn't play a role in survival will be selected for randomly; so enjoyment of f**t humor is a completely random mental/genetic thing.

They -are- hilarious, aren't they.
