Question:

Why are kids such horrible drivers?

Why recently are so many kids so bad at driving? I'm talking 16- 19 years old. Especially girls. I got my drivers license 5 years ago and never had any problems with driving. I got my license quickly, and have never gotten a single ticket. Part of this is because my Grandpa always told me that in order to be a good driver you have to know your car. I've been working on cars since 17 as a hobby. Driving has always been really easy for me. There are kids in New York that get their license revoked after two weeks. DUI's are extremely common. They drive 10 mph under the speed limit on highways, holding up a group of cars behind them who are stuck behind the kid. They are horrible at turning. One kid in my neighborhood came into a wide turn at 50mph and took so much room that he nearly traded paint with my car. Notorious for making short stops, and forgetting to use turn signals. Most kids cannot drive for beans. Do we need better drivers ed programs?

  1. "They drive 10 mph under the speed limit on highways, holding up a group of cars"

I don't think I ever drove at or below the speed limit back when I was 18 and got my first Ducati nor do I do now. What would be the point of a 170mph superbike if you go the speed limit?

  2. they think there cool and there just showing off. and i guess most kids are going to learn the hard way

  3. because most was taught at school and not at home ... so really they have less seat time... and didnt have they dad yelling at them if they didnt do it right......... i learn how to drive like five yrs before i got my lic.... farm boy i was driving tractors and farm trucks when i was big enough to reach the pedals... yes we do they should be a bigger part of school and start sooner most are the same yrs kids get their lic or just after they shoul dalso be taught at home more mom and dads are just too lazy now days to teach their kids anything

  4. they're inexperienced.  I have my permit right now, and I can tell you it is hard to learn all of these things at once.  When you first learn to do something, even for a while, you aren't perfect.

And don't generalize.  I have never heard so much c**p about how kids are terrible drivers, how kids are stupid, how kids are overweight, and how kids do drugs.

  5. Because we dont care if we hit someone, our insurance will pay for it. Plus, were really busy and dont have time to keep looking at the road and whatnot. And I hate that turn signal clicking noise, so Im on strike against using them.

  6. look at how their parents drive look at their  hero's and they actually are not doing to bad by those standards it is us who are bad drivers

  7. You were taught to pay attention to your driving.

    Most kids suffer from:

    - ego

    - distractions (ipod, texting on their phone)

    - testosterone poisoning

    - inexperience

They should be the best drivers on the planet, because they have the best agility, visual acuity and learning ability.

  8. I am a drive test examiner, I work for a DMV somewhere in US, I have to say that I would share the blame of bad driving:

    1. parents, parents should be the first to determine if their kids are fit for driving or not, just because they though a fit that does not makes them ready for driving. I can see on my applicants the mistakes their parents do, they copy their habits rather than following the guidelines.

    2. state agencies, too lenient in requirements, when granting driving privileges we have to keep in mind that kids only have to meet state's minimum requirements to be able to pass the test, if they pass that means they know the minimum, back to the parents...., they should be the one to "enforce" the rules, keep on eye on their kids. In the end, would I want my kid out there hurting himself or others?

And another thing...., don't bring them to test on their birthday!!! What if they fail? quite a birthday present.

  9. Our driving culture is all whacked.

They make movies like "FAST and FURIOUS" and kids want to just speed.  When I took pilot training, it was all about safety.  Any body who would brag about doing stupid things, we all shunned him or her.

In my opinion, I think teen driving ED should be 100% by the instructor (not only partly by instructor and then DAD).

    Good Luck...
