Why are most plastic tarps blue?

It seems like most of the tarps in the hardware stores are bright blue. I can occasionally find a green or gray one, but blue is the most common color. Why?

Are they really? Maybe it's just the favorite color in your area. Around here I see orange most often.

I don't know....maybe so everyone knows you are using a tarp. Bugs the h**l out of me also.
