Question:

Why are my ixoras not growing?

I planted them 2 years ago around the queen palm in the front of my house. The corner where they are faces southwest. They don't seem to take off. They look very skinny and although they are now flowering this month, they don't seem to get bushy and grow. I have fed them ixora/palm food 2-3 times a year since I have planted them. The palm is thriving nicely, but not the ixoras. What else could I plant around the palm instead?

  1. Ixoras like acid soil.

Try to incorporate some peatmoss into the soil and mulch with pinestraw. Keep plants moist during the growing season.

Azalea fertilizer might help in the meantime.
