Why are some people really short?

I know it has to do with some form of a gene, but im asking:

1. which type of gene

2. other things that affect tininess

  2. It's more than just one gene that determines height. There are a whole bunch of genes that determine things like how your bones grow, proteins that cells use to stick to each other, how much growth hormone your body produces, when you stop growing, etc.

    If you're talking about people who are really, really short, it's called dwarfism. Some people like that do have mutations in single genes, like in achondroplasia. But there are a lot of different types of dwarfism too.
