Question:

Why can't it be told?

Being proud of our honest dealings the small but growing supermarket chain I work for put up placards saying 'Products are now subject to reductions in size and weight but the same keen prices are unaltered.'.

We have been told by our suppliers to remove these signs as they are in breach of contract.

  1. I don't see why you want to put these cards up.

Where is the economic gain? Or how this is any information the consumer would need?

I agree with the first answer you got.

You can look at any candy bar and see that they are shrinking the product to maintain the same cost.

As far as the threats about contracts. I would suspect that threats are about all they have. It would be too expensive to litigate.

However. I still don't know what you gain from this.

  2. Because what you're saying makes no sense.

That disclaimer basically states that you reserve the right to reduce the size and weight of all products, yet charge the customers the same price. You're clearly stating that you will rip customers off and because of a sign you have the right to do so.

That's against all consumer policies... price is sold by certain standards (per lb, liters, etc). Your suppliers use the same standards to sell to the supermarket and will need to make sure that you are within guidelines of markup, otherwise it will adversely affect them as well.

    This is what you're saying:

Originally: 3lbs of apples is $5

Now: 2lb of apples is $5

Price is per pound. So you have to just change the price per pound not the other way around.

  3. I'm not sure why it can't be told, but I see that's happening in a lot of places.  Can you put the signs up in the front of the store so it's not aiming at a specific product, but just informing the consumers on a general level?

It's nice that there's an honest business out there.  Keep trying!
