Why cant I get signal?

Question

Not sure what type of phone I actually have (its pink/red with touch buttons, with a square button in the middle if this helps) I'm with Virgin. I used to get signal absolutely everywhere, now days I cant get signal anywhere, then when I do I go to write a message, and as soon as I click send my signal disappears!

Its REALLY annoying, is this the phone or Virgin?!?!?!?!?!?!

Any way how to sort it out?

it's prolly a little of both, a cheep phone and a small phone company. i have verizon and every so often dial *228 and it updates your service and the towers you get
