  2. Those who criticize the Islamic legislation towards Slavery are holding those views because they analyze the process of abolition that Islam used, using a tunnel vision. In other words they fail to see the big picture in which this process not only completely abolished slavery from the Muslim world but the approach was the most humane and most peaceful method ever employed for this task.

Dr. George Brest, a non-Muslim historian says, "Christianity did not object to slavery. Politically or economically, it did not encourage the believers to oppose the traditions of their generations as regards slavery. Christianity did not even discuss the problem and said nothing against the rights of slave owners. It did not urge slaves to demand their freedom and did not basically ask to free the slaves."

In the Grand Larouse of 19th century one reads: "Man does not wonder at the presence of slavery and its being common among the Christians till now. The religious representatives approve it and believe that it is legal. In brief Christianity approves it completely till our time and it is very hard to prove that Christianity tried to abolish slavery."

It is no wonder that Christians continued to practice slavery until very recently.

In less than fifty years, Western slave traders carried to North and South America slaves, who now number about twenty million people, left after killing and oppression. This number is five times that of the slaves in the Ancient World more than a thousand years ago. And the difference between the slaves of the Ancient World and the New World is so great that Negroes in America are still a race of secluded pedigree, of lesser privilege and no practical rights.

One does not find this in any nation of the East. A black man who comes to any country there is considered a citizen in about one generation. He has the same rights and duties and needs no protection by legislation or law.

In the Encyclopedia Britanica Vol. II p. 779 under <<Slavery>> one reads: "Catching slaves from their villages which were surrounded by jungle happened this way: Fire was started in the dry hedges surrounding the huts and when the residents fled away into the jungle the Englishmen caught them in devices prepared for that purpose. Some of the people died during this human hunt on their way to the coast to the ships of the British and other companies. A third of the remaining captives died because of climate alteration and during the shipping 4.5 % died and 19 % died during the journey. Those who died in the colonies were uncountable."

In 1502, about eight hundred thousand slaves entered the colony of Jamaica alone, and only three hundred and forty thousand were alive at the end of the same year.

Queen Elizabeth I was partner in the slave trade. Her partner was John Hawkins the greatest slave dealer in history. She made him a knight because she admired his courage and made a coat of arms a slave in chains and handcuffs. It is really ironic to read that ship which the queen prepared for Hawkins was called <<Jesus>> and the ships made for the slave trade numbered 192 and each ship could hold 47,146 slaves. England asked the clergy to find documents to justify this trade and they readily enough found the text from the Old Testament which were mentioned above under Slavery and Jews.

The Bible, unlike the Holy Quran, widely promoted the institution of Slavery; Muslims cannot believe that God could have inspired the following on the issue of slavery found in the Bible:

"Let all who are under the yoke of slavery regard their masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be defamed." (Timothy I 6:1)

"As for your male and female slaves whom you may have: you may buy male and female slaves from among the nations that are round about you." (Leviticus 25:44)

"If a man lies carnally with a woman who is a slave, betrothed to another man and not yet ransomed or given her freedom, an inquiry shall be held. They shall not be put to death, because she was not free" (Leviticus 19:20)

"When a man strikes his slave, male or female, with a rod and the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. But if the slave survives a day or two, he is not to be punished; for the slave is his money." (Exodus 21:20-21)

And the Lord said, "When you draw near to a city to fight against it, offer terms of peace to it. And if its answer to you is peace and it opens to you, then all the people who are found in it shall do forced labour for you and shall serve you..."

    (Deuteronomy 20:10-11)

  3. 1 Timothy 6

1All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God's name and our teaching may not be slandered. 2Those who have believing masters are not to show less respect for them because they are brothers. Instead, they are to serve them even better, because those who benefit from their service are believers, and dear to them. These are the things you are to teach and urge on them.

No particular group has a monopoly on good. Everyone has been bad at some point.  I really wish it weren't so, but it is.

  4. too much pot dude?

  5. slavery is haram!

no person shud go through it!

  6. Homogenous society...

  7. OK, when you give it the name "rape", you give a wrong description:

024.033 Let those who find not the wherewithal for marriage keep themselves chaste, until Allah gives them means out of His grace. And if any of your slaves ask for a deed in writing (to enable them to earn their freedom for a certain sum), give them such a deed if ye know any good in them: yea, give them something yourselves  out of the means which Allah has given to you. But force not your maids to prostitution when they desire chastity, in order that ye may make a gain in the goods of this life. But if anyone compels them, yet, after such compulsion, is Allah, Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful (to them),

    Al-Qur'an, 024.033 (An-Noor [The Light])

Now, is it still right to say "rape"? Will you use that word again?

Moreover, if you look at the time where Islam came, you wouldn't complain much. Slaves were being used in trade. It was a job for some people! Trading slaves!!! Islam came and regulated the whole matter. It made the emancipation of slaves a great virtuous action as well as a penalty for some wrongdoings. It commanded people to treat their slaves as though they were their brothers, i.e. it was secretly eliminating slavery without making a mess and chaos in the people

I hope this helped, if you were honest in your request.

    Allah knows best.

    Peace be unto you.

  8. In the former times, when a war broke out between two tribes or nations, usually, one of them totally wiped out the other in the clashes. Most of the men were killed during the fight, as there were no regular standing armies and adult men from each family were expected to participate from their respective sides. The cities, villages and other dwellings of the enemy were razed to the ground.

Islam forbids the Muslims from slaying women, children and religious people of the opponents, as long as they don't try to participate in the battle and hurt them.

When the Muslims were victorious in wars during the Prophet (P.B.U.H)'s time and the enemy was overpowered, the supervision of the conquered lands fell into their hands. The complicated question of the hundreds of widowed women and children arose. Obviously, they couldn't be left on their own to starve to death with no provider. The solution to this problem was to distribute them as seemed best among the Muslims, according to their social ranks so that they would be provided for. This was done.

The next problem presented itself. These women lived in their houses and they provided for them, so what would be their status? That of their wives? Or would they be considered their daughters? Or sisters? That's ridiculous! Would all the Muslims be required to marry their war captives? (Muhammad P.B.U.H set a fine example by doing this, and encouraged it among His followers, promising them a heavenly reward if they educated the slave girls, freed them and married them, but it was illogical to make it compulsory). Of course, the solution was to allow the men to to be intimate with their war captives whom they were responsible for. Better than the gruesome treatment other nations (even today) mete out to the women of subjugated lands, huh?

Certain strict rules were set for the Muslims with respect to their slave men and women.

If a man had a child through his slave woman, he could not sell that slave woman, since she became the mother of his child. After the man's death, she would be a free woman. The child was his legally, and inherited an equal share of his father's property as the other children.

A companion of Muhammad (P.B.U.H) insulted his slave, calling him the son of a black woman. Muhammad (P.B.U.H) heard this, and exclaimed:"O Abu Zar! u insult him on account of his mother? u have done something which exhibits ur ignorance! They are ur brothers, u have them under ur control, and whoever has his brother under his control should feed him with what he eats himself, should clothe him with what he wears himself, and should not order him to execute a difficult task, and if he assigns such a task to him, he himself should help him accomplish it."

A companion of Muhammad (P.B.U.H) slapped his slave in a state of fury. Seeing the signs of anger on Muhammad (P.B.U.H)'s face, the companion became frightened and said: "O Prophet of Allah! I free him for Allah's sake." He (P.B.U.H) declared: If u hadn't done that, u would have been burned in h**l fire"

Islam didn't abolish slavery at once since it was not feasible due to several reasons. But freeing the slaves who could become independent was made the expiation of several sins. Great rewards were promised to those who freed their slaves. The captivation of male and female war captives was continued till the caliphate of Umar (P.B.U.H), one of the closest companions of Muhammad (P.B.U.H) during His life. When the standing armies were established, and the war captives remained a problem no longer, the tradition of war captives was totally abolished.

The bottom line is: the Muslim world in general was cleared of slavery centuries before the other civilized nations!

Hope that I am getting through...

    Any questions?

  9. I have never read the Koran, and I don't know if this is an actual passage from it, however, you must remember that all religions and bibles are the interpretation of man, not God (aka Allah, Jehovah, Yaweh, Dios, et.al).

  10. because the ones who wrote the Q'uran (in power)... wanted it that way...

  11. Thats not true, there is no approval

  12. did not.

slavery was a common practice everywhere in the world. some people used to have dozens of salves men and women.

Islam got rid of slavery gradually to not create theft, vandalism and prostitution + fatherless children.

as for the rape stuff, i think that looks more like old testament, check again...

    @Asker

there was no law for slavery in Muslim countries because there was no slavery. western countries needed a law to tell them to stop, and to tell them to not sell women who were sold for 2cents a pop til late 1800s in the "Great" England, Muslim countries had this law for 1400 years.

besides, its only because of the western market giving top dollars for slaves til the 1900s that some nonpracticing Arabs participated in that lucrative business/traffic.
