  1. Who's ever called spaghetti "sperghetti"? I've never heard of that. But people are different and some people have a different way of saying things. That's like asking "Why do some people speak Chinese and others don't?" Get it? =]

  2. I hear it pronounced "gaspetti" a lot. Annoying.

  3. sperghetti sounds like a drunken slur. It is dialect

a few years ago there was a nationwide survey done regarding the different ways people pronounce things based on where they live. It is interesting, check it out. :)

  4. Why are you axing this quesshun?

  5. Many regions have a unique twist to their pronunciations.  People from Charleston, SC do.  Virginia, and even a little community in Virginia have a unique method.  The wildest I've ever heard was a couple of people from Nag's Head, Virginia.  The history is a terrific story.  I just roll with it.  Once you get used to it, you know what they're saying, and that's all that's important.

  6. idon't know but in italy we say SPAGHETTI...ihihihi..ciao(bye)

  7. I've not heard that pronunciation, so I can only guess . . . but it usually comes down to these things:

    Uneducated

Trying to be funny, but aren't

    Lazy

    Stupid

I have heard folks call it pasghetti, often in 'baby-talk'

  8. why yell at us..

    what difference MIGHT it make..

    who cares besides you..

  9. I'm from st. louis, and i've never heard anyone call it speRghetti. if anything, i've heard children (and playfully, adults) call it psghetti. there's a little deli called that too.

and FYI st. louis has one of the most authentic italian neigborhoods in the country. so there should be no exscuse for anyone to mispronounce spaghetti.

and i'm guessing you've met some st. louisans with some lazy regional dialects.
