Why do people compare Kobe to...

Question

Players that are PF and Centers. They are two completely different positions and players. People say Duncan is better than Kobe, but they are completely different players that play different positions. Don't you agree with me that you can't compare players that play different positions. I know you can't, I just want to know what you think.

i compared kobe to duncan because people kept comparing mJ and kobe so much because of similiar positions, but when people say g.o.a.t. they say Bill Russell.  Well bill russelll played center and I believe he is the greatest of all time.  So when people say know it is kobe how can they say that.  

EDIT:  No that's what people tell me when i said duncan better than kobe

one way to look at it, is lets say you are in a game 7 of the nba finals, and you can pick one player to be in the game who would you pick.................KOBE BRYANT!! who can go off for 50-60 any time he wants!!

Then you can't say he is the best player, just best SG. If people continue to say he is the best, I'm goiing to continue to say Duncan is better. Thats just me.

Most of the time when you hear Kobe being compared to Duncan or Garnett it's because people are arguing over who's the best player in the NBA, or the MVP.  I agree that its tough to compare players who play different positions, but people are always trying to identify who is "the best" player or most valuable player, so you end up comparing the impact players have on games, regardless of positions.

they don't necessarily compare them as to their specific position. people compare magic and larry bird before and they were point guard and forward respectively.

ithink when fans compare them, it's about their on court and off-court persona. and yes, statistics matters too like scoring and rebounds, assists, etc., rings, all star appearances, awards....

You can compare which had the better career. Don't need to compare stats that just stupid, they are 2 different players but career wise you can compare them.

Too bad Kobe didn't get to play in Game 7 of the NBA Finals yet, either because Shaq already won them the championship (before 2003) or because Kobe couldn't carry the team to a Game 7 (after 2003).
