Why do people surf?

bodyboarding is so much better

and why do surfers think there better then bodyboarders. i bodyboard and i dont get it. bodyboarders can do so much more nuts stuff.

surfers can do like cutbacks or airs whatever

bodyboarders do 360s gyrolls all sorts of flips while in the air

why do people think there better then bodyboarders because they surf?

It's simple - surfing is simply more fun.

I sponged for 6 years from jr high through hs then tried surfing and realized what I was missing out on.  Unless your surfing Pipe, Wedge, or any other heavy break - 95% of the spongers out there aren't 'surfing' any better than stand up surfers.  I didn't realize this until I 'hopped the fence'.

Bodyboarding has it's place for those who enjoy doing it - but take a tip from someone like Kainoa McGee and stand up and surf.

I don't like spongers because they tend to position themselves ahead of the surfers, they exit waves pretty early and just cut in the lineup. They can catch a wave without much effort, whereas surfers requires more skill / placement / paddling. I get annoyed at spongers because they take the good waves, and just about anyone could throw on some fins and be able to catch a 10 foot wave with a boogie board. The same def. does not apply to surfing.

I do body boarding and skim boarding and I completely agree. But what I do when I bodyboard is take charge of my area. I don't let anyone near me that I'll hit if I cut. The only good surf spots in my area are controlled by benny's so I can tell them off cause I'm a local and benny's are just excuses for life.
