most girls have gone through a pony stage... many of us never got through it lol. i would like your thoughts. it seems that at a lot of stables there are a lot more girls than boys.

so what's going on? if you are a girl (statistically you should be) what first attracted you to horses and what has kept you involved with them?

  1. well i love horses but everyone tell s me that i will grow out of it but i have all ways loved them

  2. I love they way the they move, especially the ones that seem light as a feather and have a floating action at the trot and canter.

I also love their beauty. I love a well groomed horse decked out for the show ring with that athletic, healthy sheen.

But my favorite thing about horses is their rich and varied history.  They are the most important animal in the history of civilization.  They are more important than dogs or cattle.  They enabled us to travel vast distances and learn from other cultures.  Since they are more adaptable than other mounts, such as elephants or camels, to the drastic changes in climate and feed one can encounter in long distance travel , they proved to be the superior animal for travel and exploration. They allowed us to have advantages in wars and defend territories in new ways.  They gave us new sports and cultural pride and new industries.  Horses can be found among a vast array of cultures throughout the world, from high society to tribal peoples living close to the land.  They're a universal  language of sorts.  For example, many Americans and people from the Middle East don't trust each other, but they agree that the Arabian horse is spectacular and will lower their guards for this common interest.  The same has been true of other horsemen from opposing cultures all throughout history.  This is one of the many reasons why horses have been given as valuable gifts between leaders throughout history in just about every culture that has ever had anything to do with horses.  Historically, they have also been treated as a sort of common currency, like gold.  People from different cultures may not always agree on food or clothing or even which jewels are worth more than others, but they all recognize the value of a strong, healthy, well trained and well mannered horse.

Actually, it is only recently that more women are "horse crazy" than men on a statistical average.  Historically, horses have been associated with men and manly power and manly beauty and manly sports and manly hobbies.  The men would discuss horses while the women discussed baking.  Historically, the most elite horse clubs were for men exclusively, and many women were even discouraged from spending too much time around horses at all.  So, you see, "horse crazy" women such as I have the right to be horse crazy because we have bridged the sexist gap!  The bra burning of the '70's empowered more women to domineer in the horse world as well as other manly persuits.  Now women tip the scale in the horse world for the first time in history!

  3. because they buck me off and then i meet really hot paramedics and male nurses..:)

  4. cant think of one thing

  5. horses are just to magnificent to be kept away from love at first sight for me

  6. They are beautiful, intelligent and move so gracefully over the land and all the amazing stuff they can do it like an instinct to like them!!

  7. I don't know what first brought me to horses, but whatever it was I'm glad it did. I guess it was the typical little girl's fascination with horses. What kept me into horses was the fact that they were always there. They were never too busy for me or anything like that. Horses helped me through a lot of tough times, because they were always there to listen. Even today if I'm having a bad day, I'll go out to the barn and spend some time with my horse and he just makes everything better. And being involved with horses gave me something unique. I wasn't like everybody else, and I was good at something.

Horses are just amazing animals. That's the plain and simple truth.

  8. Well, i am a girl thank you. haha

And i never CHOSE to have a passion for horses. nor did anything happen to me that made me love them.

It must have started when my mother was pregnant. her way of pregnant exercising, was riding her horse! She rode until she was 8 months pregnant with me! She rode walkers and they did a lot of trail riding.

I got my very OWN horse at 4, a Percheron mare. 18hh. My grandma tells me that i looked like a rag doll on that big mare.

I even have a picture of me on her. =]

I have been around horses all my life and i have the scars to prove it. =]

  9. i got involved with horses when i was 3. my family lived on a farm, and had always wanted horses. i grew up with them, and they became my passion. i love everything about them, riding, grooming, just being around them. i gave them every spare minute of my time, it was alot of work, but it paid off and i loved every minute of it. they are like a therapy, i can never get enough of that feeling when i'm riding them, it's like i'm flying. it's so therapuetic and it's just what i love to do, ever since i was little. they gave me a sense of responsibility, and hardwork, if i worked hard i would continue to grow. and i loved that. i loved that i could go to the barn and learn something new from them everyday. the fact that they were always there, just waiting, and wanting me to work with them.

the connection between horse and rider, it's amazing, it's my favorite thing in the world.

  10. Im no sure y. I thinks its everything. The way you can tell them anything and they will just listen  too you and wont tell a soul. They forgive and you can make incredible bonds with your horse. They are better than people any nasty ness is for a good reason. People ***** about you behind you back but horses dont. Your horse is you best friend and if you give you get.

  11. I honestly cannot pin it down to one thing.  It's an emotional and spiritual connection that goes beyond words, I think.  From the first time I touched a horse, there was no going back.  I had found a soul that was "like me" and I knew that there could never be any other.

I breed and raise Tennessee Walkers, and that has kept me in it.

  12. their beauty, strength, the way they move ,the way they smell, the way their hooves sound when they walk all their different colors.I just love them everything about them.

  13. i couldnt exactly tell you when i started loving horses. . . i know it was before i could talk at least. it just grew and grew, everytime i get to be near a horse i get all googly eyed and shy. hehe. but i love em because they understood me.  i'm the shy anti-social person in the corner, on a horse i get to feel free and not worry about people around me. anyway, it's hard to put into words why i love horses so much, but i've loved em for longer then i can remember anything else.

  14. Why is this pointed only at women? I mean didn't y'all women burn bra's in the 70's about this kinda thing? I mean really, that's kinda sexist isn't it?Haha just kidding.

Now with that said. Horses, have been putting food on my table my entire life. I can't place my finger on one thing. But for me its the challange and the companionship.

  15. wow, i tried to answer this, then noticed that i'd been typing a book.

i have always been horse crazy, i think.  when i was 13, i was blessed with a wonderful horse.  the most perfect reg. palomino qh gelding, in everyway.

i lost my first love, last year.  he was 30 yr old, and will always be.  he not only blessed my life, but that of my children, as well.  he was the first horse my children ever sat.

for me, horses are more than a passion.  they are seared into my soul.  they made me who i am today, imperfect as i am...lol.  i pity those who haven't seen a horse, felt a soft fuzzy foal nose, been kissed by by horse lips.  horses are truly a gift.

  16. I could not say, type, write why I love horses because there is so many reasons why...I can't read the future but I certainly know this: No matter If I get a totally different job or something like that I will always and I mean always love horses.
