  2. Organisms need energy for locomotion, to find mates, reproduce and to find food. Foods such as starch and proteins are broken down by the enzymes in the body, and can be used, stored as fat, and a small portion is released as heat energy. An active organism can use its energy/fat reserves quickly, and it needs to replenish its system in order to survive. Alot of the materials that an organism ingests is fed to the blood stream, which transports oxygen and other materials to the muscles and organs. Some is lost by respiration and unused materials that have no use to the organism is excreted.

  3. an organism is a living being, e.g. a human and we need energy to keep us going, and the materials i assume you refer to as food. we need that to keep us going too
