Question:

Why does my car sputter?

My car is sputtering when I step on the gas. It acts like it has hardly any power at all and sometimes it dies when I step on the gas. Could this be the timing maybe? I put injector cleaner in it and had no results. Is there any test I can do my self to find out the problem?

  1. also change your oxygen sensor(s). no one seems to know this but it has happened to me with 2 different cars and now that is the first thing I replace. when the car gets scanned, it will read that a cylinder is misfiring so everyone will assume it is all these expensive parts first.

  2. It may just be time for an all around tune-up. Cars are funny because little things that go wrong make you think that they are about to fall apart and sometimes you will have something major wrong and will never know it. You may check your spark plugs, and your injectors may be so dirty you will have to have them cleaned or replaced by a professional. You might also look for other problems in your fuel system.

  3. CHECK YOUR SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES ALONG WITH THE COIL MODULE OR DISTRIBUTOR, ALSO CHECK YOUR AIR AND FUEL FILTERS YOU COULD HAVE A CLOGGED UP FILTER OR YOUR PLUGETC COULD BE BAD AND NEED REPLACED. IF THAT DOESNT HELP TAKE IT TO A GARAGE WITH A COMPUTER AND HAVE THEM CHECK IT IT WILL COST ABOUT $50 BUT IF ITS A SENSOR OR SOMETHING ELSE THE COMPUTER WILL TELL YOU WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM

  4. clean the fuel filter/air filter
