why does my healthy parakeet stick her head out and open her beak repeatedly, it looks as though she is trying to regurgitate food. is this what she is doing? shes very healthy and once in a while i catch her doing this. is it her trying to make noise or is it part of the digestion process? please answers, im not worried just curious! =D

  1. you should watch her more and if she just does it regularly, like all parakeets, than it's fine, but if not do take her to the vet immediately Good luck. :).

  2. If she only does it occasionally then she's probably just clearing a little bit of mucus and it's perfectly normal.  But if she does it repeatedly or you notice it becoming much more frequent you should run her to the vet for a check-up.  All of my birds do this (and they are all perfectly normal and healthy :-)

  3. It is probably nothing to be concerned about because birds will open their mouths and close their mouths wide to itch their ears deep inside where their foot can't reach.   If this happens too often in my pigeons they usually end up coming down with Trichomoniasis.  That is a disease parakeets can get, so you should do a search and read up on Trichomoniasis in parakeets to become familiar with the symptoms you should watch for.
