Why doesnt walmart have different plants?

why doesnt walmart have different palnts everytime i go there they have the same ones .id like a varity tp pick from and why do they look so bad?

Try stepping outside your WalMart world.  I know its scary out there but you'll find some variety.

Many Walmarts and other 'big box' type of stores will actually "rent" plants from companies to sell, they have contracts and some stores have different size contracts, and some stores will spend more money on different departments, Wallyworld does not spend as much on their garden department, they will sell more bags of soil, flowerpots, miricle grow, you know stuff to actually keep a garden going, rather than plants. They make a little more money on the garden 'things' rather than garden 'plants' or seeds.  Other stores, like Home Depot have spent a lot of money on their plants, because a lot of their plants are bought by landscapers and do-it-yourself kinda homeowners, so people go there more for the plants, think about it, they go to get landscaping equipment and home repair stuff, and people figure 'well since I am here I can just get the plants too', which is why they also sell a lot of trees.  Plus (now this is going to sound horribly old fashioned and steryotypical) but I personally know if my husband is spending a lot of time in home depot, I will enjoy myself by spending time in the garden department, since they have so many flowers its like going to a park for me.  If you want more exotic flowers that you don't think you could find there or at Lowes, then you should go to an actuall plant nursery, where that is all they sell, you will also be able to get more garden questions answered, since they only sell plants the employees are more knowlegable than say the sales clerks at box stores. Get out and explore and have fun! :)

Walmart does not make their money by providing choices, they do it by being cheap.

A result of their low prices is that their employees are usually low paid and uneducated - even on the health issues of plants. They look for warm bodies - not expertise.

You may want to look at a local nursery for your variety and plant health.

Plants don't get taken care of at walmart because they have incompetants working there.  If you want good plants go to a nursery.

i think the plants are fake, and if there not mabey some of the people who work there have allergies from some plants.

this is how walmart works. they are so big that they tell suppliers how much walmart is going to pay for the product. if suppliers take the cheap offer of walmart they do business, otherwise they don't. walmart only sells the most common plants of the season, since gardeners and landscapers do not go there. walmart does not really need to have more plants unless they want to compete with nurseries, which i doubt.

K9cops is partially right.  Individual WalMarts or other big box stores do not have  say in what is shipped to them.  Somewhere somebody decided a district's stores fall within a certain growing zone (who cares if the district has 4 different zones)......without taking into consideration all the other factors that go into proper plant selection.   Yeah, HomeDepot does seem to make an effort to get some appropriate plants for an area, WM is just terrible.  

Shop your local nurseryman for plants, not the big box stores. The nurserymen have at least one knowledgeable staff member, often all are well trained.  They take care of their plants as they don't have a whole store of merchandise to cover losses in the garden departments.  

Finally the big box stores have contracts on how long plants can be held.  If you are looking for bulbs for example, get them when you see them because often by planting time they have been thrown into the trash.....the contract doesn't care if your area had a late growing season, if the summer bulbs are to be tossed by May 31, they are tossed.
