  1. type it in on youtube and you'll see why

  2. two words

    KRAV RULEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

    *ahem* sorry

but seriously krav teaches you self defense in all situations

  3. .....Because it's intense.... I've taken a class and I decided against it, there's a lot of cardio work to exhaust you before the class.... apparently intense is good to everyone, the same reason Tai Chi is underrated, it's too calm. Both are good martial arts to take, but they're used differently, people are agressive nowadays and Krav Maga is one of the most agressive martial arts out there... well... depending on the situation of course, but most of the time, it's not particularly merciful, hey, it was created in one of the most conflict filled countries in the world, that's what it's built for.

  4. have you seen "Sikaran"??

  5. It's simpler to learn and the training method is realistic.  It's also not one of those disciplines where you both have to know the art to fight.  You're always trained as if you're always at a disadvantage in the fight, so it's far more realistic in that way.

  6. I wouldn't say it's overrated although its seems to be the in vogue style at the moment, but it's principles, attitude and approach to self defence is excellent, but it is not the be all and end all ,there are many other styles that can and still work effectively in self defence.

    Best wishes :)***

  7.      I think that most people that say Krav Maga is the best martial art to take up don't really understand martial arts in the first place.

Yes, Krav Maga is good in the way that it trains you in a stressful environment and it deals with "real-life" situations more so than other traditional martial arts, but remember that its not about the art, its the fighter. Krav Maga is pretty legit, if it wasn't then the IDF, as well as hundreds of government and law enforcement agencies, wouldn't bother with it.

The point to remember is that just because someone has been doing Krav for a few years doesn't mean they're invincible in a fight. And I can tell you first hand that if you've never had prior training in martial arts then you'll struggle a little in Krav Maga. I've seen guys in my classes that have been doing it for over a year and still have sloppy kicks and punches. Self-defense is easy to learn (that's what everyone means when they talk about incorporating "the body's natural reactions" into the techniques), but for fighting, some guys just can't hang. I did Tae Kwon Do among a couple other things before I started Krav Maga, and the guys I spar with know they can't win if they try to trade kicks with me, so they go with their hands or their ground game where I'm still learning. Same goes for my friend who did Boxing, some guys try to go toe-to-toe with their hands and get knocked around.

One of my instructors did Judo, Boxing, Aikido, Jiu Jitsu and Ninjitsu before he took up Krav Maga. That's a scary combination of martial arts if I ever saw one.

So the bottom line is this: if you've been properly trained in Krav Maga and you know your stuff, then yes, if you fight a couple drunks in a bar fight who come at you with beer bottles and pool sticks, you're gonna wreck them. But against another trained martial artist or fighter, the fact that you've done Krav and the other hasn't will not be the only deciding factor.

If you take two guys who are equally proficient in Krav Maga at a high level, but one of them also took Boxing, JiuJitsu and Muay Thai, that one will probably win the fight. There is no single "best" martial art.

  8. Most people claim it is the best martial art because it combines elements from different styles.  It also tries to be as realistic to a fight scenario's as possible.  In the list of moves employed, they have quite a few strikes that would cripple people.

  9. Asking if Krav Maga is overrated is like asking if the Israeli Defense Forces are overrated. The simple answer to both questions is no. Neither Krav Maga, nor the IDF are overrated. The individual soldiers , police officers, and/or students of Krav Maga each have a different level of proficiency in this fighting system, so it is not possible to judge Krav Maga definitively. I know that I would not want to pick a fight with someone proficient in Krav Maga.

  10. Short answer is, it's new!

  11. Because little is known about it.

Not many people have access to it other than what is heard... (Israeli Martial Art)..etc.etc.

So it is talked about highly, so is Systema, and Combat Sambo, despite people not really having much experience or exposure to the art, aside from what they see on a TV show or hear about.

Most people who list Krav Maga only do so because somewhere else they have heard that Krav Maga is the best for the street, or self defense.

Few people who talk about it have actually done it, and those that have will tell you that nothing is THE Martial Art.

  12. Because it's really cool to say and people don't already have pre-conceived opinions that they would have about karate, kung fu, judo  or tae kwon do.

The other reason is that it is known to be used by the Israeli military forces and the world knows that Israeli security people have to deal with terrorists on a regular basis.

This creates a perception that "krav maga" is some sort of super art.

In reality, krav maga borrows the most effective and efficient techniques from all of the other martial arts.

As someone else on this board said, Krav Maga is not designed to "fight" against a skilled master of another martial art.

Instead it is designed to eliminate the threat as quickly as possible using as little energy as possible.

It really is not a separate martial art, it really is a conglomeration of the most effective techniques for escape and gun and knife disarmament from other martial arts.

Although I joke about Krav maga alot, I have no problem with people taking it as long as they are learning from a qualified instructor and that their goals are strictly self defense.

    Thanks.
