  1. All the rivers empty in to the Gulf too & other part is people don't care. Sad isn't it. I hate Galveston too!!! SPI is MUCH better.

  2. It could be worse. Take Baytown for example.

  3. It is what it is. Why anyone would choose to "Beach it" there is beyond me.

  4. The water is not the crystal blue of the Caribbean or even the blue you see in FL.  Don't forget this area got hammered in Rita 4 years ago.  Government money and volunteer groups were spread pretty thin post Katrina and Rita, and I'm sure Rita did nothing for beautifying Galveston.  Galveston was never a beautiful beach, but it was what that area had, and people living around there are glad to have it.  The overall atmospere of the town of Galveston is like a bit of Key West in TX, but it is TX not the Keys.  You take what Mother Nature gives you and make the most of it, not try to rebuild it.  If you go down further away from town, it gets a bit more appealing, and there is shelling.  When you live by oil refineries and Houston, Galveston is an absolute gem in comparison.

  5. Because it's not a real beach. It's a wannabe beach.

  6. not much you can do when Mother nature decides to do the improving her self. What gets me is you have to go past the crappy projects and other crime ridden areas to get to the nicer parts of Galveston. Back in the early 90's I worked on the island and saw just the horrible areas of that town. Since I left in 92, I have not been back, I have never taken my kids to the beach there, instead, we go to Matagorda. It's much prettier and cleaner. Water is a little clearer but not by much, but there is a lot less ocean trash on the beaches there.
