  1. UK answer.

I can't  tell you why you have the name that you do, but I have found the origin of it for you.

    Callender Name Meaning and History

English: occupational name for a person who finished freshly woven cloth by passing it between heavy rollers to compress the weave. The English term for such a worker, calender, is from Old French calandrier, calandreur, from the verb calandrer.

    Scottish: variant spelling of Callander.

Variant spelling of German Kalander (see Kolander).

    Hope this helps.

  2. Scottish rebels were sent to the New World as

were later Crown Subjects transported to distant

Australia.  Who better to ban from England than

criminals and any other threats to civil authority?

Writer is descended from Pre-Revolutionary War

Scottish enclaves in highland wilderness of what

later became known as Northern Alabama.

  3. A lot of Scots landed in the Caribbean in the 1700's.

    Some were pirates.

    Very cool ancestry.

  4. The earliest proprietor of a plantation on Barbados was a Scot, the Earl of Carlisle, James Hay.  Scottish indentured servants worked on the plantations of Barbados and hence settled there.  After the Jacobite rebellions of 1715 and 1745, the Crown banished many Scots to Barbados, which in turn became a springboard to Scottish settlements in Jamaica and South Carolina. So saying, you might want to determine if an early ancestor fought at the Battle of Culloden in 1746.  One of my ancestors found his way to North Carolina after being transported after that battle.

  5. The Scots did an invasion of the Caribbean including Barbados in the 1600-1700's and there are many white Barbadans of Black ancestry.  Very, very cool look they have too.  Celebrate this very rich history and be proud!
