Why is the Eiffel Tower Created?

I am doing this for an article, so please help me. I couldn't find much in the research etc.

The Eiffel Tower was built for the International Exhibition of Paris (World's Fair) of 1889.  They were planning on tearing it down afterwards, but obviously didn't.  The people of France hated it at first but gradually adopted it as their own.  Gustave Eiffel, the guy who designed and oversaw the construction of the tower, supposedly ordered the precise number of nuts and bolts needed for the tower's construction.
