in my 5 year olds bedroom. Right behind where the air conditioning vent is if you step in that area the floor actually feels like it is caving in! No it actually caves in. And I can hear a popping noise. Does anyone have any idea what this is and how to fix it or how much it might cost to fix it?

  1. You need some reframing under the floor in places.

  2. Sounds like a floor joist was cut to install the vent or possibly the subfloor was over cut and a shoddy repair was made.

Not having any more information that what you gave, it is impossible to say for sure and very much impossible to guess at the amount or extent of repair and cost.

I would suggest you call a reputable handyman and have him or her look at it in person.  It's strictly guessing by anyone on here, myself included.

  3. Possibly through the years the condesation has dripped from the vent inside the wall down to the floor..it definately has rot..Condensation has taken it's toll..and thhis a hidden area that cannot be given a precise cost to repair untill you actually tear some flooring up to see what damage has been done..
