I don't think it's half a million children, but rather half a million Iraqis.  Either way, it is a lot of people and doesn't take into account the almost 2 million refugees.

The same reason most Americans seem to think the bombings in Japan were justified even though most of the casualties were civilians, and the same reason people get offended whenever someone compares the atrocities that animals suffer in factories to the way the n***s treated prisoners: It's human nature to favor your own kind. The media in the U.S. also sees these our soldiers as heroes whereas all Iraqis are either bad guys or just unimportant. Sorry if this seems a little ridiculous, but it's hard to think straight when I'm this pissed off.

Because the "1/2million deaths" is an errant figure, predicated on ALL deaths (and exaggerated as well). The methodology of coming up with that figure counts deaths from disease, mistreatment by family members, caused by animals, accident, suicide bombings, and other causes as well as local warfare.
