Why is this person doing this?

I'm sorry, I am new here. I had to open another account from when I was in the Games area because my account was hacked. I heard about this going on from some other friends online. I don't know either person, but this has me curious. Why is this person:

and what purpose does it serve? Is this the only time this has happened or does it happen a lot here?

sadly some people on this site are a 'bit' weird. I suggest you contact yahoo and get yourself a good firewall.

what does your account being hacked have to do with these two similar acounts....they are not the same account & may be this guy wants to ask other questions from a seperate name base.....

Cloning is as old as Yahoo.

You should see some of the clones in the Literati rooms.

People do it all the time.... they usually do it so that they can spew out some hate filled speech and others with think it is someone they know.

It happens all the time in the Politics section.  Disgusting.

I think it boils down to immaturity.  People get kicks out of doing these types of things.  I have never personally had it happen to me, but I have several friends that have been hacked one time or another.  I have not heard that it happens a lot on Yahoo Answers, but I do know it happens a lot with people blogs and their game accounts.  I hope you get things figured out and it doesn't happen again.  Good Luck.
