Maybe it brings back the soothing feeling of being in the womb.

Because it takes people back to when they were still in the womb being surrounded by liquid.

Your mind wonders off. Plus it has a nice massage feel to it whether it is moving or not.

My guess would be because it is thicker than air, and it encloses you, like if you are in a body of water. Also, if it is cold or warm that can relax you too.

id say the sound because why else do people have those like radios or w/e that play brooks and stuff so they can go to sleep its not like they're watching it
