Normally Snakes have no LEGS so it does not walk it is easy for them to move fast and free they move cross. Some move in straight direction and some move cross.

Snake does not have bones and has got only flesh / muscles which turn / bend often the direction it takes, and also it crawls and its legs has got the ears also it takes the signal from the sounds and move in the same direction.

the same is contra in Elephant as it has got a heavy bones it can't turn immediately and thus it runs straight.
