  1. Not sure. They could be spoon players.

  2. I would say spoons are smooth and rounded, whereas knives and forks are sharp and dangerous.  Just my .02.

  3. Maybe they really like spoons. They like seeing their face upside down in the reflection!

  4. People have been collecting souvenir spoons for generations.  My grandma had a display box full of them.  There are several companies that design special souvenir spoons for collectors.  They are generally much smaller than the spoons we use for tableware.  I don't think anyone makes the special knives or forks for collectors, but if the companies made those instead of spoons, I imagine that's what the collectors would buy.

The first souvenir spoons in the United States were made in 1890 by Galt & Bros., Inc. of Washington D.C., featuring the profile of George Washington.  One year later, a souvenir Salem Witch spoon was made, and sold seven thousand copies. It was created by Daniel Low, a jeweler in Salem, Massachusetts, after he saw souvenir spoons on vacation in Germany. The Witch Spoon is given credit for starting the souvenir spoon hobby in the U.S.

The 1893 Columbian World Fair in Chicago was one of the major impetuses for the collecting of silver souvenir spoons.
