Question:

Why won't my internet work?

I recently got a new wireless router and have connected both my PC and my Mac to the internet, as I did a year ago at a different house, with no problems. This time, however, the connection only stays active for so long, but for no reason at all, I lose it. I resolve it by unplugging my router from the modem and then plugging it back in. I followed every step on the back of my router box, and see no reason why it is doing this. What might my problem be?

  1. It could be the router, like the other user suggested.  Could also be something wrong with the wires, sometimes they twist a little bit.

  2. My advice, although I have never experienced this, would be these options

    1) Check your DHCP- You router might be set to lease an internal ip address for a short amount of time.

To do this : 1) use your default gateway to get to your routers homepage.

To do this: 1) Start RUN

                       2) Type in cmd and enter

3)Type in ipconfig next to the text that shows up.

                       4) you should see your default gateway ip address  in the information given

    2) Ok now after you have gotten into your device's webpage go to its setup or network settings ( something under those lines) and look up DHCP lease time, try to set this really high like 15000 minutes or something.

Now if this doesn't work try to restore your router to its factory settings. This should be easy to do so no explanation recquired.

I would also reccomend you use your routers wireless utility service not windows.

If these dont work you can also look up your problem on your isp or routers homepage, or contact their support - on their forums.

  3. could be the router.  It may be damaged.  Take it back where you bought it from with the receipt and box that it came in and exchange it.
