Question:

Why won't my printer work?

I have a new HP Photosmart C4280 All-in-one printer. It uses a 74 black ink cartridge.

I put in the ink cartridges correctly, after a bit of a struggle. The printer prints the first half of a sheet of paper clearly, but then the rest looks like the printer has run out of ink.

How could it be that a new ink cartridge ran out of ink so quickly? Can you give me any advice on how to bring this cartridge back to life?

  1. Hi! Have done a bit of research into this particular printer & have to say that it doesn't have a very good reputation for ink economy,(or anything else for that matter). That aside it's likely that the cartridges supplied with it will be very low fill units good for just a few pages. From what I can gather a new 74 cartridge is only good for approx 100 pages of text at a reasonable quality setting.
