Question:

Wildflowers in Siena in September?

I need specific names of the WILD flowers that proliferate in the Siena area during early September. Not pictures of fields of unnamed flowers, not flowers that are specifically planted by someone, and not flowers that appear only in the spring months. Thanks for the attempt, but that's not what my art project requires.

  1. The springtime is when most wildflowers are in bloom around Tuscany. In September, there will still be some orchids - for instance, there's an orchid walking tour in Greve which is not far from Siena: Limodorum abortivum, Ophrys speculum (called Mirror of Venus in English), Epipactis placentina, Orchis simia (monkey orchid), Ophrys tyrrhena.

By September, the grains have been harvested and many fields have been plowed. It's pretty dry through the summer months until October, so you don't see so many big fields of wildflowers here.

  2. If it is purple, light purple or white with small little flowers it could be the VERBENA.

If the flowers are smalla and yellow it could be the GINESTRA.

Those are both wild flowers but probably you are talking about the widespread MARGHERITA GIALLA, a tall plant which blooms at the beginning of fall. Each plant has about five or six yellow big daisies. It is the flower of the TOPINANBUR.

    Hope this helps you
