Will I go to jail???

Question

Can I go to jail if I lied on the employee background check and signed it? I wrote I worked at these places that I didn't because I really need the job. They are doing a criminal records check, I think. But If I take the job I will probably start working before they even find out. I also used my friends to be my reference and they already talked to them, but they are now going to do a criminal records check I think.

You won't go to jail, but they won't hire you if they call these places and find out you never worked there.  Get a job in construction.  They don't do criminal background checks.

If you actually go to work for this place and accept a pay check, you could at any time in the future be prosecuted for fraud and have to pay back all the money they have paid to you.

Lying on a job application will not put you in jail.  If you are hired, and it is later determined that you lied on the application, you will most likely be fired from the job.  If you have never been charged, tried, or convicted of a felony (and in some cases misdemeanors) then you have no criminal background - so a back ground check will not reveal anything.  More often than not, employers making background checks are looking for conviction dates (only sometimes they will also look for release from prisons as well) and will do this for a specific amount of time, usually 3 to 7 years prior to application date.  Employers will also conduct Credit Checks on prospective employees, I don't really know why, but they do.

You do not go to jail for lying on an employment application. However, if they do offer you the job, it will be contingent on you passing your background check. If you don't pass the background,  you can be terminated.

IF IT'S A FEDERAL JOB.AND A SECURITY CLEARANCE IS INVOLVED YOU HAD BETTER QUIT OR YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF IN JAIL IT IS A SERIOUS CRIME (FELONY) IT'S THE SAME AS (or worse) then YOU LYING TO AN FEDERAL INVESTIGATOR !!

A back ground check is a simple criminal records check ONLY! they are looking for outstanding warrant's and charges. I have seen employees show up at a job site and arrested on the spot by a Federal agent.

I have a clearance and have seen fed agents come to the job site and remove an employee.

You will not go to jail.  But probably won't get the job and if you do, they can always fire you any day they want whether it be 1 week from now or 5 years just for that reason.  I would not want a job to have that over my head anyway.

You won't go to jail but they probably will find out and not hire you because of that.

There's this fine print before the signature line on most applications that reads something along the lines of "all information on this form is correct to the best of my knowledge.... any misinformation will be grounds for termination..."

That's why they always say read the fine print before you sign!!

Also if they don't find out right away but hire you and find out later, you can forget about a good reference from them. That is, if you put down on future applications that you worked there.

No-you wont go to jail over that.

But-you probably wont get the job and if you do end up getting the job by some miracle they might one day decide to double check your references and find out you lied and then they can fire you.
