This morning my car was hit in a hit and run. There are no witnesses and the police said there is not much they can do at the moment. Will insurance still pay, or am i screwed?

  1. Well, I assume that you've already filed a police report.

If you have uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage on your contract, they will pay. This would fall under collision.

  2. You will have to file a police report, but yes your car insurance will pay

  3. Hit and run usually comes from YOUR pocket.  If you have comp and collision, you will have to pay your deductible to get your car fixed.  But, the chances of having the money subrogated are pretty slim. Unless you have camera trained on your car and capture the license plate number.

Uninsured or underinsured motorists are for accidents where the offending driver sticks around and can be proven at fault.  Otherwise...your'e stuck.  that sucks.

  4. the question is do you have full coverage on your vehicle? if you do, you need to call your insurance company and report the claim, they can get it all started for you, and yes your collision coverage will cover your vehicle.

  5. First, you must file a police report, then coverage depends on the State.  If you have collision, the coverage would come from there, less your deductible.  Then there is absolutely coverage.  If you do not have collision, some states allow you to use uninsured motorist property damage coverage, if you have it, for hit & run, some states do not.

The only person that can tell you if you are covered is your insurance agent or a rep at your company.

  6. It depends on your coverages. If you have Comprehensive coverage, it will pay out to repair your car, less your deductible. If you do not, you may have an Uninsured/Underinsured Property Damage coverage as well that would pay less its deductible.

Review your policy for these coverages or better yet, call your insurance agent!

  7. Well...

I do believe there will be some investigation department  in insurance companies that will take care or they appoint police. If there is no witness it is hard to get Justice. But The vehicle that hit to yours must be damaged, if he claims for that, at that time if police trace the reason for accident he can be caught !

  8. if you only have liability, then NO!  uninsured coverage is for just that, if someone without insurance hits you.  underinsured coverage is if someone hits you and does not have enough on their policy limits to pay the damages in full.  NEITHER of these would cover a hit and run!  if you have collision coverage, THAT would cover a hit and run.
