Will drawing help depression?

I am eternally depressed and I'm tired of it... I won't go to the doctor because I don't want to be prescribed a whole bunch of chemicals. I'm trying to go out for a walk everyday... trying to eat more veggies and fruits but do you think that I can use drawing as a sort of therapy for my depression?

Making things” such as a drawing, painting, collage, weaving, or sculpture involve hands-on investment in an object with tangible results that give pleasure to or have meaning for their creators.

  2. Yes. I think I really did suffer from depression for about a year and a half but I refused to tell my doc or get on any more drugs. I wouls cry for no reason and I lost a lot of weight. This happened after a chain of horrible events happened in my life.  I didn't love anything that once held great passion for me...But it got better after awhile. I found new hobbies, a new set of friends, school and work helped a lot. Surrounding yourself with (as cheesy as it may sound) happy, fun people who would otherwise get on your nerves.  Get a dog or kitten and play with them. It has been proven that animals can relieve stress. Draw, make music, listen to (happy) music, SCREAM!!! I also suggest taking up jogging or boxing.

  3. Hey,

Depending on what you draw, will depend on how beneficial it will be. If you start drawing with manly dark shades and depressing thoughts, you should stop.

Where do you work? Your depression could be due to that, if so you should pack it in and find a job which you enjoy.

    Been on holiday lately?

And remember, you dont have to harden up. One of the greatest All Blacks (New Zealand Rugby team) had depression.... he was as strong as they come!

  4. avoid the color black

  5. Yes. Anything you enjoy and can do creatively to use your mind and express yourself helps.
