  1. Some parts have permanent snow ie taller mountains in the southern alps so thats ok to see anytime.

If you want ot snow the ski season will go from about june-oct/nov depending on the season (ie early/late snows).

There is only 1 place in the North Island, Mt Ruapehu which has a couple of skifields, but there are numerous ones in the South Island (see links) in Nelson, Canterbury, Southland (and Otago?).

If you enter the South Island its best to come in via Chrsitchurch (the main city in the South Island) and has more international flights coming in there. It has skifileds eg Porter heights and Mt Hutt within 2 hours as well as various other ones close by.

Queenstown, which is tourist mecca for adventure sports, also has skifileds of worthy note.

  2. It's liable to snow in NZ anytime of the year.  I was in Queenstown in January 1979 and it snowed!

  3. of course it will snow in NZ, not sure about Hamilton though. And for the record, Winter starts in June, so it is abit more than the 12th day of Winter, not to be rude or anything  :)

  4. na, i lived in cambridge, and the worst you'll ever get is a heavy frost. -5 degrees will be the coldest it'll get and that was caused by a massive cold front that brought snow to the kaimai's, a first in many years. To get snow you would have to go to the Central Plateau, (Taupo, Mt Ruapehu, etc) or further down south. and depression??? waikato farmers are cashing it in big time at the moment, record profits!

  5. You will never have to go more than a days drive at this time of year to find snow.

So far this year the met services have got their warnings out early enough for the farmers, but it is the rogue snow storms that get the lambs.

It is still too early for lambing.

I used to live in Tauranga and worked with a guy who had never seen snow.

One day we saw there was snow on the Kaimais and that weekend we went for a drive to do some wheelies in the snow.

That was 30+ years ago, so somethings don't change LMAO.

  6. It Already Has In Parts Of The South Island...And The North.

In The Canterbury Area, There Has Been Two Snowfalls, But None Big Enough To Settle For More That An Hour Or Two.

Further Down South, There Had Been Quite A Dumping Of Snow, Causing Roads To Close.

The Usuall Days During The Year For Snowfall To Acure In New Zealand Is Between July 5th And July 11th I Think So Im Guessing There Wont Be Any More Snow Now.

You'll Just Have To Wait Till Next Year, Or Visit Some Where That Has Snow At The Moment.

  7. It's snowing here now, but I'm not in Hamilton.

You would be very unlikely to ever get snow in Hamilton unless the weather went completely chaotic.
