Will my auto insurance go up?

I own 1 car. My son will soon be eligible to get his drivers learners permit. I will not let him drive my car. Will my insurance still go up? Even if he doesn't get a permit?

  1. If you don't put your son on the insurance policy, then it shouldn't go up.  


  2. if your son gets a permit you need to let your agent know.  they will place him on the policy as a non rated driver.  this way he is listed so if an accident occurs he is covered.  he is NOT rated on a permit, so your rates will NOT go up.  once he has an actual license he needs to be added as a rated driver and then yes your rates will go up as he is an inexperienced operator.

  4. Nope. It only goes up if you inform the insurance company that your son is now a driver, has his license, & is authorized to drive your car. If your son does not have a permit or a license, then nothing will change.

  6. No, it does not go up till he gets a license. You should still notify your insurance company that he has gotten his permit and will be driving the family car with supervision, just in case. Good Luck!
